The Moebius strip or Moebius band is a two-dimensional structure (surface) in topology, with only one side and only one boundary component. The Moebius strip has the mathematical property of being non-orientable and can be realized as a ruled surface. It was discovered and described independently in 1858 by the German mathematician and astronomer August Ferdinand Moebius from Leipzig and the mathematician and physicist Johann Benedict Listing from Göttingen.
